Cowboys Invite Mays and Campbell

Earlier this month the Cowboys brought in around 20 players from across the country for pre-draft visits. They purposely left some slots open in their allotted 30-player limit.

Now we know why.

Southern Cal safety Taylor Mays will visit Valley Ranch this week.

Mays is a terrific athlete but some teams wonder why he did not make more plays. Others see him as a possible Roy Williams' clone, a big hitter in a game that is more geared to defending the pass. At 6-3, 230, some have even mentioned the possibility of Mays playing linebacker in a 4-3 scheme.

Mays is one of four safeties the Cowboys will visit with, joining Nate Allen, Morgan Burnett and Chad Jones.

Nick Eatman at dallascowboys.com also reports that Maryland tackle Bruce Campbell will be visiting the Cowboys this week, too. Campbell has been linked to the Cowboys from several mock drafts. He had a tremendous workout at the Combine but it did not match up with what he put on film to some.

If Bruce Campbell falls to Dallas at the 27th pick, expect him to be drafted and will challenge Doug Free for the left tackle position. Free is the more athletic of the two, which is key against NFC East pass rushers like Osi Umenyiora and Brian Orako. But Campbell seems to be the stronger, a younger version of Flozell Adams....well, maybe without the false starts and tripping.
