Former New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor was arrested early Thursday morning after being accused of raping a 15-year-old girl at a Montebello, N.J., hotel, according to police. Taylor is being charged with third-degree rape, the Journal News reported on its website. Ramapo police said Taylor has not been formally charged yet.
Ramapo police have said a news conference will be held this afternoon. Taylor's attorney, Kenneth Gribetz, told the Journal News that he expects for Taylor to be released on bail later today.
"We firmly contend he is innocent of the charges and will be fully exonerated," Gribetz told the newspaper.
