The Redskins were the only team in the NFC East who didn't hold a minicamp last weekend. But they'll make up for it Friday, when they begin a "rookie" minicamp which will be voluntary for veterans. That means that Coach Mike Shanahan expects everyone on the roster to report.
That said, I'd be very surprised if defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth made an appearance. He skipped the club's first minicamp and it's unlikely he'll change up his offseason routine, which is mainly based on avoiding Shanahan. The Post has a list of some of the players who will show up on a "tryout" basis Friday.
Keep in mind that cornerback Carlos Rogers and linebacker Rocky McIntosh haven't signed their tenders, and that McIntosh skipped the last minicamp. Tomorrow I'm planning to write a column explaining how difficult it is for a team to make the transition from the 4-3 scheme to a 3-4.
I’ve personally watched the Cowboys go through the change as a fan, and dissected the Ravens changes in and out of the 3-4 in the past few years. There’s one big question about this Redskin defense switching to a 3-4 though. Usually, a team has a specific process to draft for the 3-4 defense, and you might notice that London Fletcher doesn’t exactly fit the standard mold for a inside linebacker in that scheme. How will he hold up in Haslett’s defense?
I’ll try my best to give you guys the answers tomorrow.
